Biotechnology footlockers have been developed for checkout to middle and high school science teachers through the Biotechnology Education Project. Valued at $5,000 - $6,000, the footlocker contains highly specialized lab equipment that can be very costly for schools to purchase individually. The footlocker also contains activities that can be used with the lab materials.

Teachers wishing to utilize the footlocker must be trained through the Biotechnology Inservice offered by the University of Nebraska. Footlockers are housed at the University of Nebraska Cooperative Extension in Saunders County office near Mead, Nebraska. Funding for the materials was provided by the Nebraska Network 21st (NN21) and Saunders County School-to-Careers. Footlockers are also kept by the ESU #2 office in Fremont, Nebraska and the University of Nebraska Biology Department.
