Social/Benefits Committee
About the Social Committee: The ARDC/Saunders County Extension Social Committee organizes social activities and benefits meetings for employees. Funding for activities are provided on a voluntary basis by employees once a year.
Funding: The funds are used to cover the cost of flowers if an employee, their spouse or child should pass away and get well, retirement, sympathy, and wedding cards. With this money, the committee is able to purchase cookies and beverages for various employee activities. Funding also goes towards the employee picnic, food for the post-holiday get-together, and refreshments for the many retirement and farewell receptions were all made possible because of employee donations. Employee retirement dinners are not included in use of these funds.
Employee of the Year Award: In 2002, the social committee designed and implemented the ARDC Employee of the Year award. The award recogizes an employee at the ARDC or Saunders County Cooperative Extension annually for his or her outstanding work. Employees submit nominations and those nominations are put forward for rating by fellow employees, supervisor rating and social committee rating. All prizes for the award are solicited by the social committee and the award is presented at the summer picnic. For more information on the Employee of the Year award, please visit http://ardc.unl.edu/EOY.shtml.
Other Employee Activities : The social committee also coordinates activities such as benefits updates, employee flu shots, the Share and Care holiday drive, and other activities that benefit employees or the community.
Membership: Social Committee membership is on a voluntary basis with supervisor's approval. The committee consists of a mix of professional/managerial and office/service staff.
The Social Committee chairperson provides a report on social committee activities at the monthly Unit Managers meeting.
